Bible Studies

Our church offers several Bible studies during the school year beginning in September and ending in May. The Disciple Bible studies last approximately 9 months with daily Bible reading at home and 2 hour weekly meetings at church. The studies are lead by lay persons and include text books and video aids to help explain and enhance the studies for each week. The series includes; "Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study" which, known as Disciple I, is a study of the entire Bible with equal emphasis on the Old and New Testaments. The contents of this study follow the chronological movement of the biblical story. Another study "Into The World Into The Word" is a in-depth study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts. This study builds on the study in Disciple I by probing selected portions of the scripture. Two emphases are the Sabbath and taking what is learned and putting it to work in the world. The study "Remember Who You Are" is an in depth study of the Prophets and the Letters of Paul. It focuses on the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. Its themes are the call to remember, the call to repentance, the need for renewed vision, and the place of the community. "Under The Tree Of Life" is an in depth study of the Old Testament Writings, the Gospel of John, the Epistles of John, James, and Jude, and Revelation. This study presents the sense of living toward completion Ð toward a climax of the message and the promise, extravagantly pictured in the Revelation. The study "Jesus In The Gospels" is an in depth study of how Jesus is portrayed in the gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John. In addition to the study manual, participants use the Gospel Comparisons book to examine the similarities and differences in the Gospel accounts. And finally, "Christian Believer" is a Bible study using readings from the writings of Christians ancient and modern, on the great doctrines of the Christian faith. This study is ecumenical in nature and focuses on the church history as a whole rather than that of a single denomination. There are two 8 week studies on the Old Testament and the New Testament. All studies are not offered every year but are offered based on interest. Contact the church office to find out more about these exciting Bible studies.
