Early Wednesday morning the group boarded a motor coach at the church and headed for western Virginia. (001)
Our first stop was lunch in Bedford, VA followed by a tour of the D-Day Memorial. (002)
Then it was on to Abingdon, VA. (003) After checking into our motel, we headed to the Martha Washington Inn for a wonderful, gourmet dinner. (004 - 005) And it never hurts to enjoy a little after dinner break on the porch. (006)
After touring the city and surrounding countryside on Thursday, followed by dinner at Withers' Hardware Restaurant, (007) everyone looked forward to the Barter Theatre. (008 - 010) There we saw a performance of The Man of Constant Sorrow, a story of the blue grass brothers, Ralph and Stanley Carter.
Friday found us on the road with a stop at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN. The group was surprised at what they learned about the Speedway and really enjoyed the chance to make laps of the track in our motor coach and climb the steeply banked turns. (012 -014)
Our next stop was back in Virginia at Wytheville. No trip is complete without some shopping time. (015)
That evening we enjoyed dinner and a show at the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre. The Fabulous Fifties and Sixties Musical Review was a winner and afterward we enjoyed meeting the cast. (016 - 018)
Saturday morning we traveled to Lexington, VA and the campus of Virginia Military Institute. After a tour of the George C. Marshall Research Library and museum, we were treated to a Òpass in reviewÓ by the VMI cadet corps. (019 - 021)
Before returning to Hampton, we toured downtown Lexington and their historical cemetery. (022)
A great time was had by all.
